It's a fancy word for  a medical narrative or illness narrative. An autopathography is the story about illness, told by the person who experienced it. It offers detailed accounts of a writer's illness experience. It may illustrate an illness from diagnosis, through treatment and recovery. But it  also may examine how illness has affected other aspects of the writer's life, including social, professional or emotional ways.

These stories are powerful, and can be life-changing for both the writer and the reader. The writer gains power by reclaiming his or her own story, while the reader acts as witness.
